Chirnside Development Group

Welcome to the Chirnside Development Group Website.

Background

Chirnside Development Group was set up to progress two projects: an outdoor sports facility and an improved Community Centre.  The reason that the projects were possible was the lodging of “planning gain” money with Scottish Borders Council in 2005.  £50,000 was set aside for “community facilities at Chirnside in consultation with the local community” and £20,000 for “off site play provision.”

Progress

After initial discussions with other community groups the following steps have been taken so far:
- a community consultation regarding the future of the community centre was conducted in early 2007.
the Playball! project was pursued throughout 2007 with a successful bid for lottery funding in November.  The new sports facility in partnership with Scottish Borders Council will be built over the school holiday period this summer.  A separate group under the CDG has been established to oversee the running of this facility.
- a feasibility study by Scottish Borders Council into a possible redevelopment of the centre was conducted in the second half of 2007.
- discussions with relevant bodies about the possibility of a lottery application with regard to the Community Centre were held over the autumn of 2007.
- Chirnside Development Group was formally constituted in early 2008 so that it could enter into a formal agreement with SBC with regard to the Playball facility.
